Programs 2005

January
Our January 13 program speaker is a wonderful local fiber artist named Bette Woolsey, who lives in Bala Cynwyd. People who attended the Sedgwick's Art Quilt day earlier this year may remember her as one of the panelists in the morning program. Her quilts are widely acclaimed, and have been shown not only at the Sedgwick, but also in Quilt National 2003. She will talk about the process of discovering her image over time, the techniques
learned to get to the final image, and how it relates to fabric and quilting. She'll also talk about the value of relying on technique vs. vision....as well as the notion of the fiber community vs. the art community.

February
Our program for the evening was a slide show presented by Suzan Hirsch, Robin Levenberg, Judy Fliegelman and Susan Soiferman all of whom attended ART QUILTS TAHOE in November 2004.

March
We've decided that we have an incredibly diverse and interesting group of women, and man, that it's about
time we took the time to really introduce ourselves to each other. Lin Vandenberg was our speaker for the evening and talked about Egyptian Appliqué. She presented
a fascinating slide show from her travels in Cairo and showed several examples of Egyptian textiles.

April
Patricia Malarcher
lives and works in Englewood, New Jersey. Her pieced constructions have been shown in solo and group exhibitions throughout the United States as well as in Europe, Asia, and Africa. Her work is in numerous corporate collections, and in the collections of the Museum of Arts and Design in New York and the Cleveland Art Museum. She holds a Master of Fine Arts degree from Catholic University of America, Washington, D.C. and pursued further studies at New York University. She is Editor of the Surface Design Journal. Pat will be presenting a look at “Pieced Constructions.”

May
"Quilting a Life: A Creative Journey"
Quilt artist, teacher and author Barbara
Olson
will take us on a journey
through quilting and creativity to purpose.
She shares her evolution from
quilter to quilt artist and shows many
of her award-winning quilts. More
importantly, she discusses the tools
which helped her understand her life's
purpose and which, she believes, can
help listeners expand their creativity
and develop their natural talents.
