December Meeting Minutes

Our thanks to Susan Soiferman for opening her beautiful home to Heartstrings for our annual Holiday Dinner. The collections and quilts added to the warmth of the evening.

1. Suzan Hirsch announced that the SECOND ANNUAL HEARTSTRING QUILTERS RETREAT would take place Saturday January 31, 2004. This year it will consist of two sessions. Session 1 will be a morning class on making fabric bowls. The afternoon class will be a creative venture where we all bring in UFO’s or unwanted blocks and combine and reorganize till we have a pleasing whole to make into a raffle quilt or gift quilt. Cindy
Friedman will be our guide in creating this new quilt. The cost of the retreat will be $45 per person and will include the book and materials needed for the bowl making class, and lunch in the excellent dining room of the Marriot Hotel in Conshohocken. Get your money in to Suzan Hirsch ASAP so that your space is reserved for this super day of quilting and learning together.

2. Karoline Wallace announced that it’s time to submit your annual membership dues for 2004. Please send the $25 to Karoline or to Cindy Friedman ASAP.

3. Debbie Schwartzman is in need of 65 pins for a group in Arizona who will sell them for us in February. Tracy Keuhn has supplies. We need PINS!!

4. Our January program will be a members participation program. Please bring in your first and last quilts and the story connected with them. We will have a good laugh and marvel at how far we have come and how much we have grown.

5. Karoline Wallace has apologized for the condition of the website and wants us to know that she is moving and as soon as thedust settles she will have everything cleaned up and in it’s usual pristine condition. Good luck with the move Karoline.

1. Bonnie Atwood brought beautiful silk pillow cases from Thailand.

3. Judy Fliegelman showed a 4-page cloth baby book she made for her granddaughter.

4. Margo Clyma showed us the lovely wedding quit she made for her daughters wedding. Guests signed squares and Margo put it together beautifully.

5. Toni Cox brought two works in progressusing photocopied images and embellished with batiks, hand dyed fabrics, and couched threads and lots of thread painting.

6. Donna Leblanc has nine grandchildren and made pillowcases for all of them using a different theme for each child. Donna also brought a rag quilt and some Paula Nadelstern squares made at one of her classes. Colors were bright and imaginative.

7. Tracey Kuehn showed us some Japanese blocks made from the book Japanese East West II. Gorgeous colors and shapes, Tracey!

8. Debbie Schwartzman is now making Tallit (Prayer Shawl) bags as gifts and clearly demonstrated very creative use of Jewish symbols and wonderful colors. She also shared with us a new series of small quilts based on plants. So far a Caladium and a Coleus are complete. The series will be on exhibit at Lonni’s store/gallery in May 2004.

Dinner was delicious, the setting was lovely and the Chinese Auction was its usual cutthroat, funny, and most enjoyable activity. Everyone is already planning for next year. Happy Holidays and a happy and healthy New Year to all!
