May Meeting Minutes

Robbi Joy Eklow was our speaker for the evening. Otherwise known as the “Goddess of the Last Minute”, Robbi
showed her interesting and colorful quilts with lots of beautiful machine and free motion quilting.

SHOW AND TELL

*Lonni Rossi showed four fantastic jackets and a vest made from her newest line of fabric. Our lovely models only enhanced the garments.

*Tracey Kuehn brought two wall hangings made as wedding gifts. Tracey used the wedding invitations with a crazy quilt design; one in red, black and gray and the other in shades of greens and grays.

*Bonnie Waetzman, a talented new member of Heartstrings showed us a lovely blue floral hanging and another with a hand painted cat and hand painted wood look fabric.

*Cindy Friedman showed us her entry to the Houston Quilt Show wearable art quilt exhibit. The show’s theme is Fantasy and Cindy created her fantasy of a winning hand ”A Royal Flush”. Cindy made an ensemble of Hat, Dress and Coat using a theme of red and white playing cards, poker chips, chiffon. A Cape and train were to be added but those were at home. Cindy combined creativity with her own sense of humor and great technical skill. She gets our first prize!!

*Annie Cohen showed a great scrap quilt based on the tatami mat. She used lots of neat batiks and wonderful color and machine quilted the piece beautifully.

*Jim Vander Noot had all of us fighting for the fabulous knitted scarves he has been making and when Lonni saw them she wanted them for her shop. Jim used a variety of yarn in all thicknesses and textures and wonderful
colors. He also showed us a wall hanging of 2-inch squares, with great machine quilting.

*Susan Soiferman brought a super Kaffe Fassett quilt called Gridlock... wonderful colors in a simple pieced design that looked textured and intricate.

*Judy Fliegelman brought in her African Fans quilt... Dresden fans made with African fabrics and set in a very modern design.
