January Meeting Minutes
Soryl chaired the meeting in Janet's absence. Robin reported on the meeting of the "guild program consortium." Several interesting programs have been set for the future. See the schedule for Spring 2003 for details.
The evening was given over to the making of a quilt for Kathy Harrington, a long time Heartstrings member and very talented quilter who is gravely ill. Marcy George brought the idea and materials for the quilt and we got to work after Show and Tell. Our guild has been asked to complete a quilt that Kathy made for St. Agnes Hospital. The quilt hangs in the lobby of the hospital but has no back. Our guild will complete the back with the names of many donors to the hospital. Kathy's sister and the hospital will work with our group in completing the project.
Show and Tell:
Christina Johnson returned from a one-month trip to Africa. She received a grant to teach patchwork and piecing and also learned many batik and tie-dye techniquies from her students. Christina showed a quilted bag that was being sold here. It was large, colorful and very practical for quilters and sewers.
Lucille Clark showed a beautiful three-block African mask piece.
Kelly Fleming brought a wonderful thread-painted piece.
Annie Cohen showed 4 small appliquéd Christmas presents she did for a friend.
Judy Fliegelman brought in an antique quilt from France, with 3D dolls.
Terry Ciampitti showed a baby quilt she put together from squares signed at a baby shower. What a great welcome baby gift.
Soryl Angel stole the show with her fabrics hot off the airplane from Japan. All of us are ready to get on the next place to attend the Kyoto Flea Market. The colors and bags and variety was fabulous for any quilter. Can we get a Heartstrings trip together??
The next meeting (February 13) will be at our NEW meeting place, and after spending the January meeting in our coats and gloves, it is easy to see why we are moving. Bala Methodist Church, here we come!
Respectively Submitted,
Judy Fliegelman
