November Meeting Minutes

Suzan Hirsch opened the meeting by calling on Tracey Kuehn who announced that there are 4 spaces for us at the Linda Creed Recognition Tea, Saturday Nov. 22, 2003. It was also announced that Peggy Doyle, a founding Heartstrings member had sold 40 Pins!! We have committed 65 pins to an
organization to sell. WE NEED MORE PINS! SOON!!

Treasurers Report: we have $3400 in our treasury and January is dues collection time. This is well below the amount we usually have and is due to lower pin sales. Get busy making those pins, everyone!!

Holiday Pot Luck Dinner: will take place at the home of Susan Soiferman on Thursday Dec. 11, 2003. Sign up food sheet is available or call Sue at home to see what needs to be brought. Terry told us about the Chinese Auction. Bring 4 beautiful fat quarters of fabulous fabric, well wrapped, without your name, to be selected and stolen from each other. We will also have a raffle Basket filled with interesting sewing stuff. If you have anything to donate to the basket, please contact Terri Ciampitti and Tracey Kuehn or bring it to the dinner.

January Retreat Workshop: Should we do it again? Where? Who will lead or
teach? What will it cost? If you have ideas, please let Robin and Suzan know ASAP!

Show and Tell:
· Tracey Kuehn won our monthly raffle and kicked off this month’s Show and Tell. Tracy made a wedding gift for member Gwen Gatto who was recently married. The quilt was beautiful in jewel tones, Gwen’s favorite.

· Gwen Gatto showed the signature quilt she made for her wedding as well as a photo quilt to remember that special day.

· Elizabeth van Schaick brought goodies from Houston Festival Show, great fabric, and pictures. Made us wish we were there.

· Annie Cohen brought bugs in the form of a great kids quilt. she also asked for suggestions in quilting a large piece of banded and dyed fabric. Colors were gorgeous and quilting ideas were creative and very doable.

· Lin Vandenberg brought more of her very creative Breast Cancer pins.

· Jim Vander Noot showed us a bargello wall hanging and more of the wonderful
knit scarves he has been making; all colors and textures.

· Terry Ciampitti showed us the adorable quilted baby sweatshirt jacket made for a grandson. So tiny and sooo useful.

· Soryl Angel brought in an unusual book telling the story of “Jewish Pioneer Women Who Quilted.”

· Barbara Lawn showed a quilted jacket with cat motifs and another with Egyptian motifs. Beautiful colors and great design.

· Judy Allison brought the quilt made in response to another guild challenge. Her quilt replicated a Spode china pattern.

· Lonni Rossi showed us some quilts members made of her fabric for Lonni to take to Houston Market. She showed us pieces made by Suzan Hirsch, Joanne Dooley, Lin Vandenberg, and Marcy George. It was also announced that Lonni’s quilt won a FIRST PLACE PRIZE at Festival. Yea Lonni! Lonni also demonstrated a new product, a Clorox Bleach Pen, that allows you to place designs of bleach on fabric to achieve various designs.

·Vicki Smith showed us a small piece made with layered, computer printed fabric that was painted, pieced and appliquéd. She used a computer printer to achieve really neat effects.

It was a great meeting, even though the lights blew a fuse right at the start of Eleanor Levie’s excellent Lecture on Political Statements and Art Quilts!
