In Memorian: Sherri Dunbar
Sherri Young Dunbar, the artist, wife, mother, teacher, and great friend to
many died on February 11, 2004.
Sherri was very proud of her daughter who was adopted at the age of 14 from
Korea. Needless to say, she doted on her grandson Conner, and was looking forward
to the birth of her second grandchild this year.
The underlying theme of Sherri's artwork and a great motivator in her life
was nature and wildlife. To this end she volunteered her time and talents at
a local conservation and nature preserve.
For those of you that didn’t get to know Sherri very well, you can see
some of Sherri’s work at http://
www.dunbarquiltart.com which involves scenes from nature. Some are realistic,
others are fanciful. Many of her works feature the rain forest, shore &
wetlands, and water Life. Most recently she was experimenting with abstraction,
again of themes from nature.
Sherri taught machine quilting made easy, trapunto by machine, free motion
machine embroidery, and stenciling on fabric.
Six years ago she was responsible for starting Textile Artists Cooperative
Cluster (TACC). TACC meets once a month to show and critique the fiber art of
each of its members. The collective knowledge of the group is also shared and
new techniques are explored. Half of the TACC members now also belong to Heartstrings.
To those of us in this group, she freely shared her knowledge and talents and
was a good friend.
She will be sorely missed as a TACC member, and as a Heartstring member.
Her rising presence in the world of fiber art will also be greatly missed.
